  • Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (ANCs) consider a wide range of policies and programs affecting Logan Circle residents, including economic development, street improvements, zoning, police protection, traffic, parking, liquor licenses, sanitation and trash collection, and the District’s annual budget. Recommendations of the ANC must be accorded “great weight” by the District government when final decisions are made on policies affecting our community.

  • Northwest Settlement House (NWSH): Offers a wide range of educational activities to the Shaw community under three main program areas: Developmental Daycare, Social Services, and Youth Services.  The Preschool (448 Ridge Street, NW), serves 24 children, ages 2 and 1/2 to 5 years.
  • Sunrise Academy: Established in 1999 as a private, non-profit, Special Education Institution in the District of Columbia, its focus is on individualized instruction and tailoring the program to the student.   • Mount Vernon Triangle: A new neighborhood between Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey Avenues has broken ground.
  • Yale Steam Laundry Condominium: Now under construction at Fourth Street and New York Avenue, N.W.
  • CityVista: Formerly the home of the Wax Museum, this 3-acre site in the Mount Vernon Triangle area is under development as a mixed used property. It will ultimately include 685 residential units (441 condominiums and 244 apartments), a Safeway, and 100,000+ square feet of retail space. The first phase with 149 units is called the L at CityVista, an 11-story building located on mid-block of L Street, NW between 4th and 5th Streets.   • Mount Vernon Court: Located at 426 M Street, NW, this new 10-unit condominium includes a mix of flats, duplexes, and penthouse triplexes.   • The Flats at Chase Court: Located at 420 M Street, NW, Chase Court was named in honor of Salmon Portland Chase, a United States Supreme Court Chief Justice. The facade of the original house, built in 1873, has been kept intact to preserve history while the remainder of the house has been completely redesigned and rebuilt to offer an impressive 4 bedroom, 3 1/2 bath townhome.   • East Central Civic Association: One of the oldest neighborhood associations in the District, the ECCA includes the area just north of MVSNA boundaries from N Street up to Rhode Island Avenue and from New Jersey Avenue to 7th Street, NW.  Meetings are held on the first Monday of every month (the second Monday if the first is a holiday) at Fifth Street Baptist Church, 5th and Q Streets NW, at 7pm.

  • Pediatric AIDS/HIV Care: Located on the 400 Block of M Street, this organization preserves, assists and strengthens the well-being of children (ages 5-18) living with HIV/AIDS in Washington, DC so they can achieve their fullest potential. Founded in 1987, PAHC has evolved into a fully functioning independent center providing therapeutic, educational and cultural enrichment services, and social and recreational activity programs. The organization co-owns a three-story building in the Mt.   • Allie Cat Allies: MVSNA members have teamed up with Alley Cat Allies, a national nonprofit clearinghouse for information on feral and stray cats. For more than a decade Alley Cat Allies has advocated Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) – the most humane and effective method to reduce feral cat populations.  Also visit Metro Ferals, Inc., which promotes TNR and operates a spay/neuter clinic.

  • Shaw Main Streets, Inc.: Shaw Main Streets, Inc. (SMS) is a non-profit organization facilitating a community-driven process to revitalize the 7th and 9th Street commercial corridors of the Shaw area following a comprehensive four-point strategy of organization, public outreach and marketing, physical improvements, and economic development.  MVSNA President Cary Silverman and president emeritus Deborah Ziska serve on the SMS Board of Directors.
  • 9th Street Business and Property Owners Association: The Ninth Street Business and Property Owners Association Inc. represents entrepreneurs and property owners from Barry Place NW south on Ninth Street to Massachusetts Avenue, NW that have come together to increase the visibility of their neighborhood and improve its economic vitality, overall appearance and social quality.

  • Washington Convention Center: The new Washington Convention Center opened in 2003. The facility has 2.3 million square feet of space and covers six city blocks.   • Sursum Corda Community Library: Sursum Corda Community Library was the last of the four portabranches built in the District of Columbia, and the most recently constructed Neighborhood Library in the D.C. Public Library System. Named after the nearby housing complex, the library opened November 29, 1993 with an interior area of approximately 1,600 square feet and book collection of 20,000 volumes.

  • City Museum of Washington: The City Museum of Washington, D.C. is the only museum in the District dedicated to telling the history of the city. Located in the renovated Carnegie Library in Washington’s Mt. Vernon Square neighborhood, the museum offers exhibits, a public library and a multi-media show. Although currently closed, the museum is expected to reopen soon.

Historic Preservation Design Guidelines: These guidelines are intended to assist owners and tenants of historic buildings to maintain, preserve and enhance the architectural character of their property. The guidelines are also intended to assist architects, contractors and others involved in maintaining and preserving historic buildings to plan and implement rehabilitation and restoration projects that meet acceptable standards of design and treatments of historic materials. The guidelines also address issues important to maintaining and preserving the character of neighborhoods and districts, such as designing additions to historic buildings, constructing new buildings in historic districts, accommodating the disabled and conserving energy.
